Blogging // 7 tips for organising your blog

09:00

Want to start a blog? Started a blog previously and feel a little lost? We’ve come up with some ideas for organising your blog for maximising it’s potential! If you just dive in without any order and any real schedule and organisation then you may find a little harder and a little more daunting than it really is! Follow this brief steps and you may find it just that little bit easier and sail through - mostly - just don’t forget that blogging is meant to be fun and something light hearted that you can do in your spare time!

1. Notebooks
Having lots of notebooks, or just one, can help get organised. If everything we have in our head is written onto paper then it somehow seems to help unscramble everything and help us make some sense out of all these ideas we might have. Having a physical copy of all your ideas and brainstorms really helps to get the ball rolling. It may sound silly but why not treat yourself to a nice, pretty looking, notebook as apposed to an old cheap one, it may motivate you a little more to write in it!

2. Clean space
A nice tidy space to work in creates a clean mind. I personally absolutely cannot ever, ever, ever relax or work in mess. It’s completely fair enough and good for you if you can, but it’s one thing I just cannot do! I’m a bit of a clean/neat freak and I just love having a tidy home. If my work area (ie. my dining table) is tidy then it gives me the motivation to sit down and relax. It creates a nice atmosphere. So if you are having trouble getting motivated to organise your blog then think about your environment and if it has an effect on your work.

3. Schedule
We aren’t all available to do a post every day or every other day. A great idea would be to set aside a night once a week where you can write 4 - 7 blog posts and schedule them for throughout the week. This can leave you to relax a little instead of worrying that you haven’t written a blog post in a couple of days. It ensures that you keep your readers engaged and creates posts that are quality rather than quantity because you genuinely have the time to sit down and write them!

4. A distraction free zone
This is quite a tough one if you are the sole amuser of a young child. I find it near impossible to blog or write or do anything productive (apart from clean and tidy) whist my little one is around. I always wait until she is having a nap or is nice and settled in her bed at night time drifting off to sleep. It’s the same for things such as TV. I can’t seem to get going when the TV is on as I’m more occupied in what is going on on the screen.

5. Don’t rush
This can sometimes be the worst option to take! Sometimes it’ll be getting late and you may really want to finish what it is that you’re typing, but on the other hand you actually want to get to bed, so therefore it causes you to rush, creating sometimes not so great posts. Blog posts can be produced a lot better if you have the time to sit down and plan out what you are going to write, almost like an essay.

6. Enjoy what you’re writing
What would be the point in writing about cars if you don’t like cars. Or writing about flowers if you don’t like flowers. you have to be passionate and enthusiastic about what you are writing, otherwise it can so easily come across in your posts.

7. Write like nobody is going to read what you say
Remember that this is your little corner of the internet. You don’t have to write for other people if you don’t want to. If you want to then that’s also fine. But don’t feel pressured into writing something and thinking ‘oh I’m not sure my readers will like this’ If you like it, then post it. this is a space where you can freely voice your own opinions and share your creative passions with others.
