Charity Auction
12:50
On the 3rd and 4th November we held a charity auction over on our Instagram page. We wanted to raise money for two worthy charities, The Lullaby Trust and SANDS. Both these organisations help in supporting bereaving families after the loss of a child. I think as parents ourselves, and even as non-parents, we can all agree that we shouldn't live to bury our children. It's the kind of heartbreak that can't be described by words, and those suffering should be entitled to all the support they need. Both charities promote healthy and safe sleeping habits too, in the hopefully unlikely case of SIDS - Sudden infant death syndrome. Here are some figures to get your head around:
- In 2013, one in every 216 babies delivered in the UK was stillborn (that is, the baby died during pregnancy or birth any time from 24 weeks of pregnancy onwards)
- In 2013, one in every 370 babies born in the UK died in the first 4 weeks of life.
- There are well-documented risk factors for stillbirth, such as smoking and obesity. But babies at highest risk are those with poor growth that’s not picked up during pregnancy. These pregnancies are thought to be ‘low risk’ when actually the baby is at risk
- One-third of stillborn babies – that’s around 1,200 babies every year – die after a full-term pregnancy
We worked with some wonderful small shops that helped to support our auction by donating some lovely products. Some of those include, Blossom and bear, This Modern life and Me and Hayari and many more. With items ranging from christmas advent calendars to baby moccasins and beautiful wooden bunting. There was something for everyone. All in all we raised a lovely round up of £255 and we couldn't have done that without the help of everyone that donated and everyone that placed a bid.
