The 10 joys of weaning
08:00
1. It’s completely and utterly messy!
Food everywhere and in places you wouldn’t ever expect to find food, you find food.
2. The poos aren’t quite as bearable anymore.
They smell so bad and you can tell if they’ve had orange veg the day before.
3. You can tell if they don’t like food.
Even though they can’t tell you they don’t like it through words, spitting it at you is just their way of telling you.
4. Experiments of new tastes and flavours.
You never realised how excited you would get over some stewed apple and cinnamon or sweet potato mash.
5. It’s not as easy as making the food and giving it to them.
It’s trial and error and a lot of patience.
6. Hours spent cooking, boiling and stewing fruit and veg and then freezing.
It’s going to be so much easier when you can just freeze whatever you’ve cooked.
7. The wash load seems never ending.
It’s constant clothes washing now and your bath is always filled with clothes soaking in stain remover.
8. Your changing bag was getting heavier when you needed to start bringing toys out. Now it’s bowls, spoons, bibs, pot of purée and a complete change of clothes x2 as you know they’re going to be covered.
9. They know what food tastes like now.
You have now seemed to have acquired a begging dog for a child.
10. It’s so lovely to see your child smiling when they taste new tastes they like and actually it’s a really lovely stage!
